Second Semester Classes

Second semester classes are in full swing, with new workbooks, new songs, new concepts to learn and skills to master!  The best place to start this semester is listening to your new CDs and learning the songs.  We will be experiencing this music in all kinds of different ways in class, so if students know the melody and lyrics ahead of time, it enables them to absorb more layers of musical knowledge during class, making each class time more fun and meaningful.

I am officially the new Connections Manager and Developer for corporate Let's Play Music!

Connections is a program for private piano teachers to learn more about what Let's Play Music students have learned and experienced during our 3-year-program.  These "Connections" piano teachers are then more prepared to accept our graduating students into their private studios and really "connect" with them, helping build on the foundation the students have in place, and take their skills to the next level.

Music Skills Don't "Take a Break"!

Isn't it fun to watch your child catch onto and apply new knowledge?  A couple fun stories from parents recently...

One family visited Disneyland during Spring Break last year.  They went on a Tiny Toons ride and the mom looked over to find her son with his tongue hanging out and "paw" hands by his face, panting like a dog.  Who would teach him to do such a thing?  The Fox Hunt puppet show from Let's Play Music, of course!  He recognized the piece of classical music (William Tell Overture) and was identifying the different themes, even though it was out of the context of music class.  So fun!

During Fall Break this year, a first year student was playing around on his piano at home when all of a sudden he called to his mom to come quick, "Look, I found a Mi-Re-Do!"  And sure enough, he had.

As a parent, I love the chance to be the spectator on the sidelines as my children explore and discover.  I love to watch as they put the pieces together and have some wonderful "ah-hah" moments.  As a teacher, I get to witness some of these too, but it's even more fun to hear the stories from home because it shows that they're applying their knowledge and skills to external situations.  So thanks for sharing!

Here We Go!

This year's classes are off to a great start!  We are learning lots of new names and faces, and what better way to get acquainted than through our favorite songs?  "Hickety Pickety Bumblebee, Can you say your name for me?"  "Everybody spin around just like Reese!"  And "The more we get together the happier we'll be!"  Too true.

Here's a photo of one of my very cute students, Sadie, teaching a music class to her stuffed animals the week before classes started.  Whose daughter do you suppose she could be?  ;)

2010 Wrap-Up

All my students learned SO MUCH this year, and they did a terrific job showing it at the recital!  Thanks for the privilege of working with your children!  They put a smile in my heart.
